Mount Zion Recitation Movie Review and Plot Summary
Recitation is a miracle play by Mount Zion. It revolves around a schoolboy who fights against fear, poverty, and pressure to live out his name – Testimony.
Testimony acted by Femi Omidiwura is a brilliant secondary school student. He is a child of God and has a promising future. His hope for the future however dwindles when his uncle dies. Since his father does not have the means, then it only makes sense to withdraw him from school.
There is a Bible competition with an award of N3 million for any child who can recite fifty bible verses off-hand and without mincing words. Mr Francis, Testimony’s teacher sees it as a life-changing opportunity for the boy and his family. But there is a bigger challenge– Testimony is a stammerer who struggles to pronounce even his name.
Will the faith of the teacher, and the effort of a speech therapist be enough to make Testimony recite the Bible verses flawlessly? Recitation is a movie to watch and learn the power of faith, courage, and perseverance.
Lessons from Recitation Movie
#Choosing Faith over Fear
This is perhaps the central lesson from the Recitation movie by Mount Zion. Testimony has every reason to rule himself out of the competition. He is not only mocked by his friends, but also ruled out by his brothers and parents. Naturally, his speech defect means automatic disqualification. However, he learns to choose faith over fear, to walk in faith and not by sight, and to build his confidence and trust absolutely in God.
#Perseverance
The miracle that happens to Testimony is not without Mr Frances played by the Wilos. It took the persistence of the teacher to convince the protagonist to believe in himself and force his parent to support him. The character of Mr Francis reminds us of the 911 song, which dwells on the selflessness and responsibility of believers as vessels in God’s hand. Teacher understands Testimony’s plight and the urgency that comes with it.
A big pillar of support, he believes in his student even when all odds are against him. When the speech therapist, Mrs Alexander withdraws from coaching Testimony, and the judges disqualify him, the Teacher does not give in. Thus, boosting the morale of depressed Testimony.
#The Act of God
Another important lesson we learn from Recitation is divine providence– that divine act that turns things around in the dying minute. When God eventually intervenes and loses the tongue of the stammering protagonist and He surprises us with an unforgettable testimony.
Testimony demonstrates the act of God by reciting fifty bible verses in five minutes and beating other contestants to emerge the overall winner.
